I have been commissioned. Reading Acts 1:1-9, Jesus left this earth on a high and important note. Verse eight reads, “but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” I’m to be a witness and give an account of the hope that is in me. The account that gives us hope is that we are returned to God when we believe in Jesus. Jesus’s identity as a person was the Son of God. Matt 16:16 is Peter’s confession as an in-person follower of Jesus, “And Simon Peter answered and said, ‘Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God'”. In order to reconcile God to man, the mediator had to be both God and man. His incarnation makes it so – which is why I love Christmas. All of the lights at Christmas are a witness to the fact that the light of the world is Jesus! A baby came to save the whole world? Ludicrous is what they thought, but Jesus was both man and divine AND kept the law. That is an impossible feat before and since. As Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father, He switched places with the Holy Spirit Who came soon on Pentecost. The followers of Jesus had obeyed and waited on this promise. John 3:8 says, “The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is every one who is born of the Spirit.” We also are a witness to this fulfillment in our lives that allows us to say, “There was a time in my life…then I met Jesus… and now…”. It is one testimony with many variations. 2 Cor 4:5, “For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus sake”. We frequently talk of the GO message. Go be witnesses of the one testimony – I was lost and now am found.
