Why is maturity elusive? That is because maturity means acting our age. Our age keeps changing so maturity is changing. We are mature when we are present today and hold a realistic view of our situation. Mature people are not perfect and they know it. Trauma can freeze a frame in time and we are no longer present today.
There isn’t much that we can do about our bodies aging but maturing has to do with dealing with the hard stuff as it happens. No running away or evasive maneuvers. I think God wants us to be mature, lacking in nothing. In writing to Timothy, a youth, the Apostle Paul writes in 1 Tim. 4:12, Message Bible, “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”
Those are daily steps to maturity – no matter what our age today!
