2 Corinthians 11:30
If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.
So Paul was taken to the third Heaven, Paradise, and will not take credit for the amazingness of this blessing. It sounds remarkable. Considering all of the havoc Paul exerted against the early church you might expect God to hold a grudge but God is not like us. Nor was God beating on King David for committing those offenses against Uriah, the Hittite and an upright, loyal soldier. How do these people make it to the top of the heap? Could sinning big, regretting big, and changing big be a formula? If Paul is boasting in his weakness he is a very humble believer and servant. It is quite possible that regretful sinners who know who they are become the humblest people.
I Timothy 1:15
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners – of whom I am the worst.
This is Paul again. It sounds like he has many regrets and he sounds so confident in Heaven. I think all three steps in the formula are necessary – don’t skip the changing part. Paul’s witness cost him everything and that was the change.
