To summarize history, we can choose to live one of two ways. There is a door number one – believe in God. Door number two is deny God. Again, I stress, there is no door 9.5 or 12.5, as in the Harry Potter movies. We do not design the options but only place our bet. Life is really simple and we complicate everything with our drama. I am guilty as charged. Abide with God and serve Him or don’t. The conflict, it has taken me years to realize, is that door number one goes beyond belief to action – abide then serve. SO many people say to me that they are believers but follow themselves. I’m afraid to do that. I’m reading Exodus and God is very serious about not having other gods ‘before’ Him. It will be a serious day when we learn that we thought it was door number one but we did a hybrid 1.5 or something else. To think we have entered door number one and wind up on a slippery slide with no way up or out is terrifying. We cannot hold two thoughts at one time. That is a fact. Fear and faith can swap but never coexist at a moment in time. We have many moments to waffle, complain, and work out our lives but the door is one and done. I think the kids would say for reals.
