Eight Pages

Posted on February 24, 2024February 24, 2024 by Pam

Last night I attended a send-off for missionaries leaving for Japan. It was wonderful and I left with two pages of prayer requests. This morning I went to a prayer breakfast for a prison ministry. It was my first time and prayer is more fun than it used to be. I’m not sure why. I left with six more pages of prayer items, some in font 8 pt! Tomorrow there will be a monthly prayer focus meeting, this time, on Nepal. I am not sure if I will leave with a list. Here is a quote from C.S. Lewis’, ‘Prince Caspian’. “Aslan,” said Lucy, “you’re bigger.” “That is because you are older, little one,” answered He. “Not because you are?” “I am not, but every year you grow, you will find me bigger.” This is the reason I can give myself to these enormous opportunities to intercede. Yes, I am retired, but today I will do other things just for me. I am washing sheets, got coffee, did dishes, will talk with my kids in other states, and plan to cook pasta for dinner. These are Pam-centered activities. I am not a super pray-er person but I understand what Lucy is saying in this exchange. The older I get the more I notice the magnitude of God. He has the super powers, not me. He does value these little efforts and faithful reminders, from the faithful, that we want to serve Him and lift up our brothers and sisters. It is fairly simple. Either we follow Jesus or we don’t. Jesus prayed. He gave us a model for prayer. If we don’t follow Jesus’ example then we are following our own – something else. Either we are in or we are out. We try to mystify prayer but just take a chance and persevere. There is a level of intimacy with our Holy God that is intimidating to me but being left behind on any opportunity to choose Jesus over myself is better, any day of the week. So, what do you like to put on your pasta?

"Thoughts from a genuinely evaluative mind."

Pam writes so that must make her a writer. Recently retired, she can now fill days with family, friends, missions, writing, creating, and showing up for whomever needs her. Pam loves the Lord and people. The Bible is God’s love letter to us (and who does not need more love) so she studies and writes some more.

Pam lives in the Pacific Northwest but was home-grown in Southern California. She attended San Jose Bible College and finished a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at UCLA. She became a teacher, then a Research and Development Chemist, then she built two successful real estate businesses in two states. Pam also pursued study at Fuller Theological Seminary and just completed six months serving in missions abroad.

Pam has two amazing children, married to two precious in-laws, and five sweet grandchildren. Pam is a gifted connector and communicator and the Northwest has the perfect climate for staying inside and writing – or baking! She has been writing since a wee one and is currently converting many years of blogging, by topic, into ten books. The first is a collection from 2011 titled, Beautiful Enough. The second is a yearly day-timer titled, Weekly Planner - Lessons in Life, Glory, and Grace. Number three is in progress with the working title, Christmas Today.

Ten facts about Pam in no particular order:

  1. On the team that developed an insulation for the Alaskan oil pipeline.
  2. Loves looking at homes, decorating, and has flipped five homes.
  3. Likes being tall.
  4. Films have helped define her vocabulary.
  5. Comes from Colorado tenement farmers with history traced to Wales.
  6. Was lost but now is found.
  7. Baking makes her happy – as does eating sweets with coffee, of course.
  8. She thinks mission work is the most important work in the world.
  9. The church started in Rome so she is learning Italian.
  10. Pam is a work in progress!
