In the last few days I have read, received, studied, and been around really smart people. I have ideas as I process. If you are like me, somedays there is no time to process or write well enough to give these ideas service. Here are just a few snippets…
Who’s Your Mama
I hope I have figured out why all of the Kings of Israel and Judah name the mother when announcing, “And he slept with his fathers”. I am still reading Chronicles. When I get to Heaven there will be an infinity to deal with all of my questions. I don’t understand Solomon’s 700 wives and many concubines. What was this obsession with collecting women and were they oversexed and was this God’s design to grow His people? I hope not. At least the woman who birthed the next king was given some credit. I know it was a different time but I can only consider how I would feel if I lost my virginity one night with the King and was pushed aside for the rest of my life. There has to be a better explanation.
The Seer
Another interesting word. In the Old Testament there are kings, prophets, priests, and an occasional mention of a seer. Who were these men? Gotquestions.org describes a seer as a person who sees and is just another name for prophet. Samuel 9:9. Specifically – they saw visions, pictures, or scenes in dreams or in the minds eye. This is the same insight into what God is saying or doing and is not like astrology or spooky stuff. “Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, from first to last, are they not written in the records or Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboam the son of Neat?” – 2 Chronicles 9:29.
Text Easter
A decade ago I’m not sure this would make sense. A century ago – not a chance. On the radio today an excited DJ person was encouraging us to receive a bible verse each day leading up to Easter. OK.
Approval
I know God loves me but today does He approve of me? Am I listening? Am I wise in these last days or, at least, my last-ish days? I just looked it up and there are 62 verses on God’s approval. Here are a few:
Exodus 18:23, Proverbs 18:22, Luke 1:30, John 12:43, and 2 Timothy 2:15. I’ll just summarize these teachings. God’s approval is related to some of the following: follow God, follow God, follow God, accept God’s approval/favor, don’t love the approval of men – ouch, and study the Word. There is no mystery to this. Carry on.
