Depressed people are more likely to develop heart disease. The scriptures mention the heart. Mark 12:30: “And you shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart.” Matt 12:34-35: “A good man out of the treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil”. In the Bible the heart is considered the seat of life or strength. It means mind, soul, spirit and our person and understanding. In your authentic self is the ‘heart’ of desires, and dreams. We connect with God and others with our hearts.
Our hearts are harmed by anger, frustration, anxiety, and insecurity. Our heart rate patterns are equally affected by love, laughter, and joy. We need God to touch all of the parts of our hearts. How do we yield? I once had a good friend tell me, during a very difficult time, that I had closed my hands into fists. I was too sad to allow God to touch all of the parts of my heart. God knew because He is over time and saw what that person did to me. With time, some progress was made. I love that scripture about pressing into God. I think that is how we yield and it is a lifestyle. Phil 3:12-14: “Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.
When we give our hearts to God we give the whole thing. That is a famous live from most love stories. He sorts us and all of the parts of our hearts. Then He can expertly heal the broken parts. It is our love story with our Abba Father in all times, be it depression or joy. There are no secrets from God. I have no answer but that God keeps pursuing all of our hearts. Let the surgery continue.
