As Jesus sent out His disciples, 2 X 2, not everyone was sent. We know there were more than 12 disciples based on the crowds described in the four gospel books. On that day Jesus selected 12 and equipped 12. Luke 9:1-2 reads, “And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons, and to heal diseases. And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God, and to perform healing”. The next few verses gives them specific terms of this engagement with the lost and, “They began going about among the villages, preaching the gospel, and healing everywhere.” If you are sitting in a comfy chair in your living room on a Friday night wondering what to plan for next, you can have confidence. Are you a good guy or a bad guy? If you are a follower of Jesus, who is only good, then you are following good. If you are your own God, you are more capable of choosing a wrong direction than anyone on earth. “To this end also we pray for you always that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power; in order that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ” – 2 Thes 1:11-12.
There is no doubt that you are called as a witness but that may not be as a missionary or evangelist or like the 12 Jesus called out for those villages. We can be a witness from our living room chair. What are your strengths? You are a witness to your family/friends everyday. Back to God’s word in I Cor 12:4-7, ~paraphrased: “There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit, ministries and the same Lord, effects but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” How is this possible? “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills” – vs 11. If you are called to evangelize, as Jesus called the 12, then go. Support those who are called if you can. Make peace with your assignment and see what can be done from that comfy chair. Write an encouraging book? Call and encourage that friend with cancer. Make a meal plan for your family plus someone in need. Send a card. Email everyone! Keep moving forward to see what God has planned for you next. I love Fridays!
