There are so many happy things in life and some hard things too. We like to avoid the hard but I wonder if dying is the worst thing. Let’s go to God’s word with John 12:25-26 and John 3:16-17 and Jesus says, “He who loves his life loses it; and he who hates his life in this world shall keep it to life eternal. If any one serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there shall My servant also be; if any one serves Me, the Father will honor him”, and “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through Him”. Jesus is clear that we all die. He is always calling us all to repentance so that after the inevitable event of one’s passing, we have made the choice, during our ‘lifetime’, to follow Jesus into a permanent place – Heaven. It seems that the worst thing is to live without the knowledge (go missions people) of a choice. A lost opportunity is regretted but this is permanent from my reading of Revelation – again, not a theologian. Daniel McCoy teaches these ten (his opinion) truths about death. Death is; a punishment, a mercy, inevitable, an equalizer (all share a common destiny), separation, a battlefield (addressing why did Jesus have to die for us?), a gateway, defanged, an enemy, and death will die. McCoy is the editorial director for Renew.org. John continues with 11:25-26, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this”? So it really is what happens in the time in-between birth and death that will be the best of times or the worst of times, depending on how we spend the time allotted. Make today count for someone.
