Emmanuel is with us – OMNIPRESENT. Josh 1:9 reminds us that, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” OMNISCIENT is all knowing. God knows the end from the beginning and has perfect self-knowledge. God knows all but does not cause all. God did not create rebellion. Satan was discontent based on pride and wanted to exalt himself. One-third of Heaven’s angels went with satan. Why did God allow rebellion?
OMNIPOTENT reminds us that God is all powerful. He spoke the heavens into existence. He influences leaders who are not robots – Prov 21:1. God is GREAT. Isa 48:13 speaks of, “My own hand laid the foundations of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I summon them, they all stand up together”. Isa 59:1-2, “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear”. We should address God as if He is very near because He is.
SOVEREIGN tells us about how God governs. For further study: Ps 71:5, 2 Sam 7:22, Ps 103:19, Is 9:6-7, and Rev 19:6. God governs the physical universe, animals and all creation, human beings, and has the last word in all things. A sovereign act is when God intervenes in the history of mankind to accomplish His divine purposes. Man has nothing to do with it. Examples would be the virgin birth, the Moses plagues, crossing the Red Sea, saved in the fiery furnace, the sun standing still, feeding the 5,000. All of these anomalies – miracles – were done by God, out of the “ordinary”, and served His purposes. This is a lot. To be continued.
