Back to the Future

Posted on May 14, 2024May 14, 2024 by Pam

In my neighborhood many drive Tesla’s. I’m a fan of Elon Musk but he is a character and I’m not sure what side of history or eternity he will land. He has made billions by founding or investing in a variety of forward-thinking tech companies. He loves space and is fixated on one particular letter of the alphabet. Can you guess? He also has assets in the Boring Company and Neuralink. In 1999, Zip2 was purchased by the computer manufacturer Compaq then Musk founded PayPal (originally called X.com). Why is this Christian woman who just wants to tell you about Jesus talking about Elon? For the second time in my town, a DeLorean drove past me. I would like to say that I drove past a DeLorean but no one can say that! There were only 9,000 DeLoreans produced and today’s value is about $58,978. They had many production issues due to engineering deficiencies at the time and claimed bankruptcy in 1982 – sad. There is a new owner and a 2024 version, at a cost of $150,000, currently under production – top speed 130 mph. That would make time-travel possible according to the movie franchise, Back to the Future.

It was spacey to see the car that movie lovers imagined could time-travel. The only one over time is the creator of time. I walked about nine miles each day at Disneyland last week. The real joy was in spending time with family and there is magic for the little ones. Many of the rides had that same focus on the future. There is Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Star Tours, Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Millinnium Falcon (goodness, that word has a lot of m’s, n’s, l’s, and i’s). We want to know what is ahead because our pasts are frozen in time. We are not changing the past but today is fluid and, with hope, we will have no (or fewer)regrets about our choices today. That’s all I wanted to say. A DeLorean is an auto invention. We are inventing a future that should please God and bring many more to faith so they have the future we already are experiencing.

Guess who?

"Thoughts from a genuinely evaluative mind."

Pam writes so that must make her a writer. Recently retired, she can now fill days with family, friends, missions, writing, creating, and showing up for whomever needs her. Pam loves the Lord and people. The Bible is God’s love letter to us (and who does not need more love) so she studies and writes some more.

Pam lives in the Pacific Northwest but was home-grown in Southern California. She attended San Jose Bible College and finished a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at UCLA. She became a teacher, then a Research and Development Chemist, then she built two successful real estate businesses in two states. Pam also pursued study at Fuller Theological Seminary and just completed six months serving in missions abroad.

Pam has two amazing children, married to two precious in-laws, and five sweet grandchildren. Pam is a gifted connector and communicator and the Northwest has the perfect climate for staying inside and writing – or baking! She has been writing since a wee one and is currently converting many years of blogging, by topic, into ten books. The first is a collection from 2011 titled, Beautiful Enough. The second is a yearly day-timer titled, Weekly Planner - Lessons in Life, Glory, and Grace. Number three is in progress with the working title, Christmas Today.

Ten facts about Pam in no particular order:

  1. On the team that developed an insulation for the Alaskan oil pipeline.
  2. Loves looking at homes, decorating, and has flipped five homes.
  3. Likes being tall.
  4. Films have helped define her vocabulary.
  5. Comes from Colorado tenement farmers with history traced to Wales.
  6. Was lost but now is found.
  7. Baking makes her happy – as does eating sweets with coffee, of course.
  8. She thinks mission work is the most important work in the world.
  9. The church started in Rome so she is learning Italian.
  10. Pam is a work in progress!
