When it rains, the drops splash and make the water beneath beautiful. When you drop or skip a rock the still-water visibly responds. Something has happened. If you have traveled in a small boat you know to prepare for the passing of a larger vessel. You see the wake. That is how I want to live. Jesus was stirring it up without even trying because a holy person/God is going to be different. He/she will do different things and in different ways, all causing a splash. Even Jesus’ baptism made impact as we read the account today. When you drop my life in the ocean of time, I am hoping for a tiny ripple as a sign of a life lived. Why am I here if not to make some difference? A large wake can sink a small boat. Some people become famous by creating a splash in a bad way, doing harm. Yesterday I told my sister that I guess I won’t be famous. We agreed that being famous to each other can be a good life. The thing about leaving some impact is that it gives value to how we decide to spend our time. Your choices matter to a lot of people and God smiles as we navigate His purpose for us. Another view of purpose is the idea of leaving a trail of bread crumbs. As long as some critter is not making them disappear, does our trail lead to Jesus? If people follow us will they find the way, the truth, and the life? Is your life positioned to do that? This is GO week at our church, with a focus on leading others to Christ wherever we are. The question posed is, “What’s keeping you here”? What if the splash you were designed to make is not within the reach of your current life? Is the life you live producing quality breadcrumbs that people will follow to the Savior of the world?
