Songs say it better so from Firm Foundation, “Christ is my firm foundation. The rock on which I stand. When everything around me is shaken. I’ve never been more glad, That I put my faith in Jesus. He’s never let me down. He’s faithful through generations. So why would He fail now? He won’t”.
You have to qualify all of this by what are we asking from God? If you have been praying to win the lottery and you haven’t, has God let you down? No. If you pray for healing for a friend with cancer and they pass, has God let you down? No. We pray, “Thy will be done”, then make our supplications. God does not fail at being God – faithful and holy. We can be discouraged as it is the human condition. An outline from a message I heard in Idaho on the work of overcoming discouragement in three points: 1) take it to the Lord in prayer, 2) trust the right voices, and 3) guard against the enemy’s schemes. If a sincere and good prayer has not been answered – pray. Is this circular? It could be but, again, if Christ is on the throne of our hearts then all prayer circles back to our Savior. The thing you and I have been asking God for is not done until we are done. Done, meaning, I am in Heaven doing a different thing or done that God has answered differently than expected. In the meanwhile we distribute (not manufacture) God’s workings. Serving is a reflex because He is our firm foundation.
