This is a tough one. How does God remove sin and offense as far as the east is to the west? How does He forget and remember our sin no more? We keep score – some more than others. The bitter who eventually take their own revenge exceed the original offense. No, they do not deserve your forgiveness but neither do we deserve God’s forgiveness. Recently I read a piece by Philip De Courcy, who broadcasts the most thoughtful devotions but this one hit the nail on the head. Where we “collect hurts and recite grievances”, I Cor 13:5 says, “keeps no record of wrongs”. Is this way of life even possible? Not in the flesh but only with the aid of our Holy God. Here it would be easy to just clench my fist around the many offenses then wish those people all to hell. I’m ashamed of my honesty but it doesn’t stick. I know too much of grace. The record of my sin has been put to Christ’s account and that changes my routine. Rom 4:8, “Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin.”
