Our children are a heritage from the Lord, a reward, and a blessing (Psalm 127:3-4). When Mary learned what the Lord had planned for her she was perplexed until the angel said, “For nothing will be impossible with God” and don’t mother’s need God on impossible days? Isn’t this word for all mothers and grandmothers? My children and grandchildren are gifts that I don’t own. If Mary had ‘owned’ Jesus there would not have been a cross resulting in resurrection leading to salvation. We love, protect, and provide (for some of us) for our children. We catch and release. Even so, Mary offered this proclamation in Luke 1:46-49, “My soul exalts the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed. For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name (not my name but His name)”. In our parenting God has done great things for us on those impossible days. He continues with us even when the little chicks are out of our nest. Mary continues until verse 55. We mothers and grandmothers have a heritage, reward, and a blessing. We carry these little people in our bodies for a bit, or adopt them, and in our hearts forever and ever. There is no greater honor but God in His mercy has us LET GO in the physical but never in the spiritual. Here are a few Christmas Season hopes we find in scripture.
Rom 15:13 – I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Ps 34:8 – Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in Him!
Rom 11:29 – For God’s gifts and His call can never be withdrawn.
God’s gift of our children and our call to love and encourage them includes present endearment for them. We fade a bit as they shine more and AMEN to that. We receive our children in Jesus name and spend ourselves for them. My house is quiet but my days are still full.
