Psalm 46:10 reads, “Be still, and know that I AM God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”. 2 Sam 22:50, again, “For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing praises to your name”. What do these two verses have in common? Always, in scripture, we hear what God has done, that He is a great God, He has protected His people, and our gratitude is in action, BUT the outcome is always evangelism. REPORT IT. MISSIONS. My friend, Christian, was speaking at a high school summer camp two weeks ago and the church wanted him to teach on the Psalm 46 message of being still and knowing God. What a great idea for youth in our increasingly noisy world. Christian said he kept looking at the rest of that verse and section in Psalm 46 and had to include the outcome. We are to walk with the God of the Bible and the Son but after that abiding time we are to share the good news of Jesus Christ. In 2 Samuel God had taken care of King David. David’s heart and words are overflowing with gratitude and praises like verse 47, “The Lord lives! Blessed BE my Rock! Let God be exalted, The Rock of my salvation”! Then David lists all the Lord has done for him and commits to praising the Lord among the nations. My friend Carol had surgery last week. I called today and she shared an update which led to a conversation about our homes. Carol is in a building that is 80% people from India. I live in a similar neighborhood and near the (soon to be) largest Hindu temple in the North West. She cannot get out for a while but two of the Indian families have looked in on her. I am walking with and drinking chai tea with some neighbors. The opportunity to say that our Lord is good comes from the gratitude in our hearts for our lives. This begins with the gratitude that gives credit for God’s rescue and our salvation story. We have SO many words in a day. How many are public proclamation of what God has done? I am trying to make plans on the weekend with people I already love who do not follow Jesus. I hope my gratefulness to God spills over. There are many small things that give us hope. May we be still and know that God can and will do this and we are not alone. It is His formula and it is His will. I’m a doodler and will attach a little drawing that represents the peace we can be in while the world storms around us.
