Psalm 16 reflects on the days that are harder than others where joy is the last thought. This chapter is summarized by, ‘The hope of the faithful, and the Messiah’s victory’. The later inspires the hope of the faithful on a difficult day where it feels more like damage control than living. “Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust….You maintain my lot….The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Yes, I have a good inheritance….Therefore my heart is glad,”. We like joy to last but it rarely does. We talk of ups and downs. We have mountain-top experiences and then a valley appears on the terrain. Today I had oral surgery but it was the last of three appointments and did not even require numbing. A win. I want to rejoin a gym but my insurance has changed. I kept pushing and learned (thank you customer care third try) that my ‘premium’ membership allows me to return – new information! Another win. These are like tossing a dog a bone only I prefer cookies. Not all challenges get handled so easily but fighting with a tooth challenge or health insurance takes it out of us after sooooooo many years. I’m glad for how the day went but then tomorrow will have its own surprises. Psalm 16 is about an eye on the future with eternal blessings instead of temporary. God is ever-present in the good times and the bad times. How are you holding up today and do you like chocolate chip?
