Transforming Stories

Posted on January 15, 2026 by Pam

Sharon Stone, actress, had a stroke and brain bleed. Today a good friend is in the hospital with a stroke and brain bleed. My sister is out of the hospital but dealing with similar issues. I think I’m older than all of these people so I worry. My life goes on because we cannot sit down and wait for a crisis. Now that Stone is recovered her life is full of art. Apparently, a stoke can alter one’s brain. She is a prolific artist and commented that, before her stroke, most relationships had been transactional with loyalty lasting only as long as usefulness. Stone also warned that if you bite the seed of bitterness, it never leaves you. She has made many changes and seems happy about them. A stroke is a health crisis but I can see how her remarks would apply to any crisis. Our brains may not change but priorities, loyalties, dreams, etc, will likely change. I think of conversions. I have seen preachers give the gospel and demonstrate salvation leading to a change in direction (and then march past the pulpit to the other side as a demonstration). We all have a story of transformation when we decide to follow Jesus. Gains and loses come with our stories. Today I read a piece on hymns. Many are forgotten but others carry us for decades. The question posed is do we need more hymns written going forward. I don’t remember the author but the answer was yes so I opened a hymnal and my piano. ‘Something for Jesus’ was written by Phelps and Lowry. I have to carefully read the notes because my skills are, other than music. To sing the words and play at the same time is a stretch but verse two is worth it – “At the blest mercy seat, Pleading for me, My feeble faith looks up, Jesus to Thee: Help me the cross to bear, Thy wondrous love declare, Some song to raise, or prayer, Something for Thee”. Please pray for the Sharons of the world, Alice P and my sister Teresa.

"Thoughts from a genuinely evaluative mind."

Pam writes so that must make her a writer. Recently retired, she can now fill days with family, friends, missions, writing, creating, and showing up for whomever needs her. Pam loves the Lord and people. The Bible is God’s love letter to us (and who does not need more love) so she studies and writes some more.

Pam lives in the Pacific Northwest but was home-grown in Southern California. She attended San Jose Bible College and finished a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at UCLA. She became a teacher, then a Research and Development Chemist, then she built two successful real estate businesses in two states. Pam also pursued study at Fuller Theological Seminary and just completed six months serving in missions abroad.

Pam has two amazing children, married to two precious in-laws, and five sweet grandchildren. Pam is a gifted connector and communicator and the Northwest has the perfect climate for staying inside and writing – or baking! She has been writing since a wee one and is currently converting many years of blogging, by topic, into ten books. The first is a collection from 2011 titled, Beautiful Enough. The second is a yearly day-timer titled, Weekly Planner - Lessons in Life, Glory, and Grace. Number three is in progress with the working title, Christmas Today.

Ten facts about Pam in no particular order:

  1. On the team that developed an insulation for the Alaskan oil pipeline.
  2. Loves looking at homes, decorating, and has flipped five homes.
  3. Likes being tall.
  4. Films have helped define her vocabulary.
  5. Comes from Colorado tenement farmers with history traced to Wales.
  6. Was lost but now is found.
  7. Baking makes her happy – as does eating sweets with coffee, of course.
  8. She thinks mission work is the most important work in the world.
  9. The church started in Rome so she is learning Italian.
  10. Pam is a work in progress!
