Downsizing is impossible. I tell people I’m working on it and deliver a few things I hope will be useful. The experts say to save the more precious decisions for last so where do I begin? The piano that’s been in the family for many years? Old furniture but I like it and can’t afford new? Kitchen and ceramics I love? Clothes – no comment. I don’t even know what to do with the random collection in the small garage. The plan I had was a few hours with my son’s help but then I got covid and he had to leave. The best wardrobe is to be clothed in righteousness. the Bible describes being clothed in righteousness most prominently in Isaiah 61:10, where the prophet declares, “He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, and covered me with the robe of righteousness”. Other verses that touch on this theme include Rev 19:8, referring to the fine linen of the bride of Christ as the “righteous acts of the saints,” and Psalm 132:9, where priests are called to be clothed with righteousness. In the New Testament, Eph 6:14 and I Thes 5:8 use armor metaphors, instructing believers to put on spiritual pieces (armor) to follow Jesus. Gal 3:27 reads, “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Baptism unites us through Christ. There are over 100 Bible verses about being clothed in righteousness. As long as we are willing to give up the world and all the stuff – I think we are OK. Just travel lighter.
